VinWonders — the theme park in the island's north

VinWonders (formerly Vinpearl Land) is a 50-hectare theme park on the northwest of Phu Quoc, in the Gành Dầu area. VinWonders bills it as the largest amusement park in Vietnam, with more than 100 rides split across six themed zones. It runs daily from 09:00 to 19:30.

There is also a 5D cinema with wind, water and vibration effects, an ice rink (yes, an ice rink on a tropical island — open year-round), an arcade hall with hundreds of machines, and a Ferris wheel with panoramic coastal views.

Getting to VinWonders

• VinBus: from central Dương Đông; timetable and fare in the VinBus app
• Taxi / Grab: ~20 minutes from Duong Dong, 150,000–200,000 VND (~$6–8)
• Scooter: ~30 minutes from the centre, free parking

Together with Vinpearl Safari and Grand World, the park forms a single entertainment cluster — the Phu Quoc United Center.

VinWonders tickets and prices

The trick: the 2-day VinWonders + Safari combo is 1,450,000 VND (~$58) for an adult and 1,050,000 VND (~$42) for a child. Two separate adult tickets cost 1,800,000 VND, so the combo saves about 350,000 VND. A 1-day combo is also sold; check its price on vinwonders.com. The combo also includes the Teddy Bear Museum at Grand World.

Vinpearl Safari — an open-air zoo

Vinpearl Safari is the largest safari park in Vietnam, accredited by the South East Asian Zoos Association (SEAZA). It spans 380 hectares with more than 4,000 animals of 200 species. This is not a caged zoo but an open landscape where the animals live in near-natural conditions. Vinpearl Safari opened Vietnam's first semi-wild safari model on the island.

Safari Park — the bus tour

A 30-minute ride on an electric bus through grounds where the animals roam freely. Lions, Bengal tigers and bears stay behind barriers but at arm's length; giraffes come up to the windows, and zebras and deer graze right by the road. Buses run from 09:30 to 15:20, with minimal queues in the mornings.

Open Zoo — the walking area

Night safari

Practical info

The Hon Thom cable car and Aquatopia water park

The Sun World Hon Thom cable car runs almost 8 km over the sea, one of the longest sea-crossing cable cars in the world. The cabins carry you from the south of Phu Quoc to Hòn Thơm island.

The views are an attraction in their own right: turquoise sea, coral reefs and a scatter of islands below. The newer cabins have panoramic glass floors for anyone who isn't afraid of heights. The departure station is in An Thới (the south of the island), about 30 minutes by taxi from Duong Dong.

What awaits on Hon Thom island

The cable-car ticket includes entry to the Aquatopia water park — 21 rides:

• Water slides for adults and children
• The wooden roller coaster Mộc Sa Thịnh Nộ
• Pools and lazy rivers
• A kids' area with shallow pools
• Exotica Village — a village with rides and a food court

Hours: 09:00–17:00 daily. The cable car closes on storm warnings. Come at opening — the line can be long in high season (December–February).

Sunset Town and Grand World — Phu Quoc after dark

When the sun starts to drop, Phu Quoc changes character. The two main evening destinations are Sunset Town and Grand World.

Sunset Town — the island's evening hub

A Mediterranean-style district in the south, at An Thới: pastel houses, terracotta roofs and a promenade facing the sunset. Entry is free, and the smart time to arrive is 16:30–17:00. It is pedestrian-only, packed with cafés and restaurants, and the landmark is the Kiss Bridge: an 800-metre pier with two "hands" reaching for each other, a nod to Michelangelo's "Creation of Adam." By day people stroll and take photos; by evening they come for the sunset and the show.

Kiss of the Sea — Phu Quoc's headline show

A multimedia show on a floating stage out over the water: water screens, 3D projections, lasers, fire and live acrobats. It runs about 30 minutes and ends with fireworks. It starts after sunset; showtimes and days off change, so check sunworld.vn. Come early to get a seat in the grandstand.

Worth it? Yes, if you like this kind of spectacle at all — the staging is Sun World-grade and there is nothing else like it on the island. In high season (December–February) book 2–3 days ahead; grandstand seats sell out. Tickets are on sunworld.vn, Klook or at the gate. Sunset Sanato — the Long Beach beach club

If Sunset Town is about scale and shows, Sunset Sanato Beach Club is about a cocktail in hand as the sun drops. It is a separate spot at the south end of Long Beach, below the airport (not inside Sunset Town). It is known for its art installations: giant wooden elephants, nest swings, bamboo photo spots and jetties running into the water. Entry is free, cocktails from 80,000 VND (~$3). Grand World — "Venice" in the north

An entertainment quarter next to VinWonders: gondola canals, Burano-style colourful facades and evening shows. It is open 24/7 and entry to the grounds is free — you only pay for individual rides and show tickets.

• Sac Mau Venice (Colours of Venice) — a free multimedia show on the canal every evening: lasers, performers in glowing costumes on gondolas, and sets rising out of the water
• Tinh Hoa Viet Nam (Quintessence of Vietnam) — an on-water stage show, with a big evening performance around 20:15–21:00 and shorter afternoon runs
• Teddy Bear Museum — 2,162 m² in a donut-shaped building; included in the VinWonders + Safari combo
• Gondola rides on the 400-metre "Venice" canal — ~200,000–300,000 VND (~$8–12) per boat

Free attractions and sights

Not everything on Phu Quoc costs money. Here is what you can visit for free:

• Coconut Prison — a Vietnam War-era prison museum. "Tiger" cages, wax figures and a kilometre-long tunnel
• Ho Quoc Pagoda — the island's largest Buddhist temple, 110 hectares, with panoramic coastal views
• Dinh Cau Temple — the symbol of Dương Đông, a small shrine on a seaside rock with sunset views
• Pearl farms — the tour is free; strings of pearls in the shop start at 850,000 VND (~$34)
• Fish sauce factory — the tour is free, the smell is distinctive
• National park — 31,000 hectares of jungle (over half the island), part of a UNESCO biosphere reserve. Trek to the Suối Tranh waterfall or climb Thiên Sơn Đỉnh (603 m)

Night market and food

The Dinh Cậu night market in central Dương Đông is the island's main food destination, with dozens of stalls selling food, souvenirs and pearls. Open 18:00–23:30 daily.

Dinner for two of squid, prawns and beer runs about 300,000–400,000 VND (~$12–16); with lobster or crab, from 1,000,000 VND (~$40). Tip: haggle — the first price for tourists is usually inflated 30–50%. Try the local Rượu Sim, a wine Phu Quoc makes from sim berries (rose myrtle).

Phu Quoc with kids — the best things to do

Phu Quoc is a strong pick for a family trip:

• VinWonders — the Typhoon World water park with a kids' zone, the Sea Shell aquarium with its show, the Fantasy World carousels, an ice rink and arcade games. Under 1.0 m is free
• Vinpearl Safari — a petting zoo, feeding giraffes and elephants, Kids Zoo and Kids Farm

Nightlife and evening activities

Beyond the shows in Sunset Town, what is there to do on Phu Quoc at night? This is not Pattaya or Bali — there is almost no club scene that runs till dawn — but there are rooftop bars, live music, night fishing and the Corona casino. Here they are, in order.

Bars and live music in Duong Dong and Long Beach

Rosso Sky Bar & Lounge is a rooftop bar for sunsets, cocktails and DJ sets — a good place to start the evening. Along Trần Hưng Đạo on Long Beach, beach bars host live music and parties by the water (INK 360, Rory's Beach Bar and a dozen simpler spots). The mood is easygoing, but don't plan on staying up till dawn: most close by midnight or 01:00. A bia hoi draft runs from 15,000 VND (~$0.60); a cocktail is 120,000–180,000 VND (~$5–7).

Sunset cruise

An evening sail as the sun goes down: a catamaran or sailboat, drinks included, often with dinner and music. It runs 2–3 hours, leaving around 16:30–17:00 from the south of the island, and costs from $35–50 per person. A nice alternative to a bar if you'd rather watch the sunset from the water than the shore. Book ahead — the boats are small.

Night fishing and squid catching

A classic evening out: you head to sea at sunset, and after dark you jig for squid on a lit line — the lamps on board draw them in. The catch is grilled on the spot. Trips run 3–4 hours, cost from 400,000–600,000 VND (~$16–24) per person, and usually include dinner. Fun for adults and teenagers alike, since you actually catch your own. Corona Casino — the island's only casino

Corona Resort & Casino in Gành Dầu (in the north) is the only casino on Phu Quoc. Foreigners are always admitted: bring a passport with an entry stamp. Since 26 November 2025, eligible Vietnamese citizens may play here too (Resolution 08/2025/NQ-CP); the rules for foreign visitors never changed. Inside: roulette, blackjack, poker and slots, with a relaxed dress code. As a night out it is niche, but it works if nothing else is on.

Night markets

Besides the old Duong Dong market (above), the VUI-Fest Night Bazaar at Grand World runs in the evenings — a cleaner, newer format with food courts, bars and shows. Both stay open until roughly 23:00–23:30 and are an easy way to round off the night without paying for a show or the bars.

EPIZODE Festival

An electronic music festival held on Phu Quoc from late December into early January. A multi-day open-air on the beach with international DJs. The line-up usually drops in September–October — if you're coming for New Year, check ahead.

When to go to Phu Quoc

Even in the rainy season Phu Quoc is a fine trip. Rain usually comes for 1–2 hours after lunch, then the sun is back out.

Price summary: every attraction and cost

Good to know

Getting around. The handiest option is renting a scooter (150,000–200,000 VND a day, ~$6–8) — you can circle the whole island on one. Grab works too, but not everywhere.

Currency. Everything is priced in dong (VND). Rough conversion: about 26,000 VND to the US dollar. Dollars are accepted on some tours and at a few hotels, but change comes back in dong, so carry cash in VND.

Sun protection. SPF 50+, a hat and sunglasses are essential, especially in the parks.

Haggling. At the night market and in souvenir shops the first price is not final. Bargain calmly and with a smile — you can knock off 20–30%.

Food in the parks. You can't bring outside food into VinWonders. The food court in European Avenue is pricier than town. Eat a big breakfast at your hotel.

VinWonders Phu Quoc or Nha Trang — which is better?

Both parks belong to the Vinpearl group, but they differ in scale and the mix of attractions.

Verdict: Phu Quoc is the bigger experience — the Safari and Grand World are things Nha Trang doesn't have. That said, Nha Trang's cable car across the bay is an attraction in itself. If you have to choose, Phu Quoc gives you the fuller day.
