VinWonders — Vietnam's biggest theme park

VinWonders (formerly Vinpearl Land) is a 50-hectare theme park on the northwest of Phu Quoc, in the Gành Dầu area. It is the largest amusement park in Vietnam, with more than 100 rides split across six themed zones. It runs daily from 09:00 to 21:00.

Vinpearl Safari — an open-air zoo

Vinpearl Safari is the largest safari park in Vietnam, accredited by the South East Asian Zoos Association (SEAZA). It spans 380 hectares with more than 4,000 animals of 200 species. This is not a caged zoo but an open landscape where the animals live in near-natural conditions. Vinpearl Safari opened Vietnam's first semi-wild safari model on the island.

Safari Park — the bus tour

A 30-minute ride on an electric bus through grounds where the animals roam freely. Lions, Bengal tigers and bears stay behind barriers but at arm's length; giraffes come up to the windows, and zebras and deer graze right by the road. Buses run from 09:30 to 15:20, with minimal queues in the mornings.

The Hon Thom cable car and Aquatopia water park

The Sun World Hon Thom cable car is a Guinness World Record holder. At 7,899.9 metres it is the longest non-stop sea-crossing cable car in the world. The cabins rise to 164 metres and carry you from the south of Phu Quoc to Hòn Thơm island in 15 minutes.

The views are an attraction in their own right: turquoise sea, coral reefs and a scatter of islands below. The newer cabins have panoramic glass floors for anyone who isn't afraid of heights. The departure station is in An Thới (the south of the island), about 30 minutes by taxi from Duong Dong.

Sunset Town — the island's evening hub

A Mediterranean-style district in the south, at An Thới: pastel houses, terracotta roofs and a promenade facing the sunset. Entry is free, and the smart time to arrive is 16:30–17:00. It is pedestrian-only, packed with cafés and restaurants, and the landmark is the Kiss Bridge: an 800-metre pier with two "hands" reaching for each other, a nod to Michelangelo's "Creation of Adam." By day people stroll and take photos; by evening they come for the sunset and the show.

Kiss of the Sea — Phu Quoc's headline show

A multimedia show on a floating stage out over the water: water screens, 3D projections, lasers, fire and 60-plus live acrobats. It runs about 30 minutes and ends with fireworks. Showtime is 21:00 daily, except Tuesdays. Come early — the grandstand catches the sunset, and good seats go by 20:30.

Worth it? Yes, if you like this kind of spectacle at all — the staging is Sun World-grade and there is nothing else like it on the island. Sunset Sanato — the Long Beach beach club

If Sunset Town is about scale and shows, Sunset Sanato Beach Club is about a cocktail in hand as the sun drops. It is a separate spot at the south end of Long Beach, below the airport (not inside Sunset Town). It is known for its art installations: giant wooden elephants, nest swings, bamboo photo spots and jetties running into the water. Entry is free, cocktails from 80,000 VND (~$3). Beyond the shows in Sunset Town, what is there to do on Phu Quoc at night? This is not Pattaya or Bali — there is almost no club scene that runs till dawn — but there are rooftop bars, live music, night fishing and Vietnam's only casino open to visitors. Here they are, in order.

Bars and live music in Duong Dong and Long Beach

Rosso Sky Bar & Lounge is a rooftop bar for sunsets, cocktails and DJ sets — a good place to start the evening. Along Trần Hưng Đạo on Long Beach, beach bars host live music and parties by the water (INK 360, Rory's Beach Bar and a dozen simpler spots). The mood is easygoing, but don't plan on staying up till dawn: most close by midnight or 01:00. A bia hoi draft runs from 15,000 VND (~$0.60); a cocktail is 120,000–180,000 VND (~$5–7).

Sunset cruise

An evening sail as the sun goes down: a catamaran or sailboat, drinks included, often with dinner and music. It runs 2–3 hours, leaving around 16:30–17:00 from the south of the island, and costs from $35–50 per person. A nice alternative to a bar if you'd rather watch the sunset from the water than the shore. Book ahead — the boats are small.

Night fishing and squid catching

A classic evening out: you head to sea at sunset, and after dark you jig for squid on a lit line — the lamps on board draw them in. The catch is grilled on the spot. Corona Casino — the only casino open to visitors

Corona Resort & Casino in Gành Dầu (in the north) is the only casino in Vietnam that lets guests play. Foreignersare always admitted: bring a passport with an entry stamp and be 18 or over. A pilot that briefly let Vietnamese citizens gamble was wound down in 2025, so don't expect locals on the floor — but the rules for foreign visitors haven't changed. Inside: roulette, blackjack, poker and slots, with a relaxed dress code. As a night out it is niche, but it works if nothing else is on.

Night markets

Besides the old Duong Dong market (above), the VUI-Fest Night Bazaar at Grand World runs in the evenings — a cleaner, newer format with food courts, bars and shows. Both stay open until roughly 23:00–23:30 and are an easy way to round off the night without paying for a show or the bars.

EPIZODE Festival

The largest electronic music festival in Southeast Asia, held on Phu Quoc from late December into early January. A multi-day open-air on the beach with international DJs. The line-up usually drops in September–October — if you're coming for New Year, check ahead.

When to go to Phu Quoc

Even in the rainy season Phu Quoc is a fine trip. Rain usually comes for 1–2 hours after lunch, then the sun is back out.

Good to know

Getting around. The handiest option is renting a scooter (150,000–200,000 VND a day, ~$6–8) — you can circle the whole island on one. Grab works too, but not everywhere.

Currency. Everything is priced in dong (VND). Rough conversion: about 26,000 VND to the US dollar. Dollars are accepted on some tours and at a few hotels, but change comes back in dong, so carry cash in VND.

Sun protection. SPF 50+, a hat and sunglasses are essential, especially in the parks.

Both parks belong to the Vinpearl group, but they differ in scale and the mix of attractions.

Verdict:Phu Quoc is the bigger experience — the Safari, Grand World and night shows are things Nha Trang doesn't have. That said, Nha Trang's cable car across the bay is an attraction in itself. If you have to choose, Phu Quoc gives you the fuller day.
